German Beer Steins were originally produced to combat health issues that triggered the Bubonic Plague in the 1300s, but lids did not start appearing on German steins until the Bubonic plague swept through Europe in the 1300s, where insects appeared in the millions attracted to the sweet smelling beer.The government decreed that all drinking stoneware had to have lids.
Vintage Original mini sized 3 1/2" BMF-Schnapskiigerl German etched stein shotglass tankard with pewter lid. Nice border of blue and yellow flowers, with a colorful medieval scene with a German soldier and working stonemasons. On the underside of the pewter lid, it says, "BMF N-Made in Germany."
Vintage 2" German mini sized ceramic mug shot glass stein. It is green with gold trim. Displays carvings of a large homestead, trees, and two men drinking beers out of mugs at a table.
