"The Monterey Club opened in 1937 and was owned by Earnest "Ernie" J. Primm, whose 1941 court case would eventually turn Gardena, and in turn, Southern California into the poker capital of the world. The Rainbow Club, which opened in 1945, was connected by a covered walkway with a bar serving both clubs in the center. Both clubs closed in 1982 after a number of newer and larger cardrooms opened in neighboring cities."
