For sale is an extremely rare and bizarre piece of Azumanga Daioh fan merch. This is a patch of Chiyo as the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from Star Trek, dated 2001. We wish we had a full explanation for how and why this exists, but no matter how much we dug we found no information online pertaining to this item.
We do know it originates from China and was produced as distributed merchandise within China, as there is at least two archived instances of it selling within China in the past. China did have a surprisingly large fanbase back when the series originally released, and there is a number of unlicensed merchandise and media that was produced and distributed only within China. Even still, a Star Trek parody patch is extremely strange. Perhaps this is some ancient Chinese Azumanga meme and was produced by a fanclub community? Regardless, it's a very cool and bizarre collectable that you will more than likely not see again.
