Franklin County, Nebraska, is a rural region in south central Nebraska that borders Kansas. In the 2020 US Census the county had just under 2900 population, or 6 people per square mile. From 1872 until 1995 the County had more than 70 one room schools. This fascinating hardback book was the work of students at Franklin high school and dedicated volunteers who from 1993-95 researched the county's school history, collected photograps and mementoes and did oral history, collecting first hand memoirs of hundreds of alumni of these tiny schools. The resulting book was sold to raise funds for the Franklin County Historical Society. The interviews throw light on many aspects of American social life and changes in rural America. It will interest not only locals but any students of American rural life, agriculture, cultural history and education. This copy is mint condition. Hardback, 318 pp. Smoke free home.
