About this Lighthouse: East Point, New Jersey was built in 1849 on the Delaware Bay and was originally known as the Maurice River Lighthouse. The Coast Guard took over operation of the light from 1939 to 1941. The beacon was extinguished at the beginning of WW II and the light remained dark for 39 years. During that time it was vandalized, burnt and left to the elements. In 1971 the Maurice River Historical Society formed to renovate the lighthouse. The Coast Guard reinstalled a beacon and the light was relit July 1980. East Point Light is the last remaining lighthouse on the New Jersey side of Delaware Bay. Harbour Lights introduced this sentinel in July 2001 and it was retired in December 2004. Signed by Nacy Younger 01. High Quality model of a Historic American nautical landmark.
