2 Vintage Engravings in Folio - French 1950 - The Inca & Golconde

This folio Les Tresors du Monde (The Treasures of the World) was published in France in 1950 and was commissioned and distributed by la Banque del’Union Parisienne. Originally there were five engravings: The Garden of the Hesperides, Jason and the Golden Fleece, Golconda, The Incas, and Crésus. All represented wealth. Only Golconde (Golconda) and Les Incas (The Incas) remain.

The artist was Jean-Denis Maillart, signed in the plate JDM. Engraved by Pierre Thirot.

Golconda is a ruined city in India known for its diamonds.

The folio cover is in poor condition. The two engravings are in good vintage condition with some light smudges and marks in the margins. The top a left edges are cut, the right and bottom edges are deckled. Overall measure 11¼” x 15”, engraved area 8” x 12”.
