The President of OGSCOFED Youth Cooperative Multipurpose Society, Badejo Adeyemi on Monday, 26th June 2023 led a delegation from the Youth Society comprising himself, Vice President Akiwowo Olusegun, Secretary Mr. Ajayi Adeleke, and Olalere Josephine to pay a courtesy call to the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State at the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Pastor Samuel Mustapha in his office at Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State, with a view to advocate and seek collaborative support for the Cooperative Society projects, programmes and activities and also to applaud him on the great work he has been doing in Ogun State.

Speaking during the visit, the President and leader of the team, Badejo Adeyemi appreciates and commended the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State for a job well done and for his impact and encouragement to the youth cooperative body. He stated that the youth cooperative movement has been in existence before in 2014 but went down the drain due to some circumstances.

He also brought to the notice of the director that he contested the election of ICA as ICA Member-At-Large representing Africa, but unfortunately lost the election due to the fact that we did not have enough representatives and delegates to vote. He also noted that there are a lot of opportunities in Cooperative Movement globally that we would be able to tap into and complement the effort of our great Cooperative Leaders if the youth cooperative body is in good shape.

In this light, the need to bring to being the OGSCOFED Youth cooperative multipurpose society Limited became paramount and brought about the result we have today. He also noted that we all know that the youth of this generation and technology are inseparable so the need to imbibe tech into our activities. He then announced that the organization’s digital platform will be out soon with the URL: https://youthcoop.ogscofed.coop

In this regard, he said, “We decided to make use of the International youth day to hold a one-day seminar on Saturday, 12th of August, 2023 at OGSCOFED Limited, Asero, Abeokuta for our young people in Ogun State and ensure that they gain access to decent jobs through cooperative enterprises. Also, to address existing stereotypes and young people’s perception of cooperatives as old-fashioned businesses by educating them on how cooperative enterprises actually work”.

Among other things, the focus of discussion during the courtesy/familiarization visit was centered on:
(i) Ogun 2023 International Youth Day; (ii) Youth Cooperative Recognition as a key partner in development contributing to the socio-economic spheres of life, and (iii) Digitalization of Youth Cooperative activities

The team was well received by the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Pastor Samuel Mustapha who is a man of substance and action with few words. In his response, he appreciated the President and other Executives of the youth cooperative body for their resilience and enthusiasm. He then suggested to the team to work strictly on how to curb the menace of online fraud considering the society that we find ourselves in and make the youth cooperative body very productive and valuable, like an orientation center, upholding entrepreneurship development, code of conduct should be strong and also imbibe quarterly physical meetings.

In his conclusion, he promised to partner with OGSCOFED Youth Cooperative in fulfilling their vision and gave his words on supporting the Ogun 2023 International Youth Day and participating in the event by God’s grace.

Highlights of the visit was when OGSCOFED Youth Cooperative President, Badejo Adeyemi presented an official letter of invitation to him.

Present at the courtesy visit meeting with the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State is Mr. Akeem Ayodeji Ogunjimi the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State. In his words, Mr. Ogunjimi noted that there is a need to affiliate with the National Youth Council and have adequate records and imbibe transparency and accountability. Lastly, he prayed for God’s grace and understanding for the assignment ahead.
