This just in: Associate Professor Agbasi Obianuju Emmanuela has been awarded the Cooperative Personality of the Year, as well as made a National Patron of CRASoN at the National Cooperative Awards 2023. The event which is the Fifth in the series was held over the weekend, on Sunday 19th November at the prestigious NECA Event Center in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria. The event was themed “Re-imagining Cooperatives in Nigeria: Our Success Stories, Challenges, and the Way Forward”. It was a grand finale event that was attended by prominent cooperative personalities within the academia, professionals, regulators, policy-makers, cooperative industry drivers, operators, and managers. The National Cooperative Awards Dinner and Patrons Investiture Ceremony was grand and full of glamour and glitz.

Associate Prof. Agbasi was found worthy of the awards due to his exemplary performances in both academic and administrative practices as well as his intimidating credentials.

BRIEF PROFILE OF DR. AGBASI OBIANUJU EMMANUELA (JP), ANIM, Ficp, FIPESA

Dr. Agbasi Obianuju Emmanuela is the current Head of the Department, of Cooperative Economics and Management, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Dr. Agbasi had previously taught at the Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, and served as a part-time lecturer at Federal College, Oji River, and Enugu State Nigeria. Besides, her teaching chores, she also holds the following administrative positions in the Administration of the University, Deputy Director Chike Okoli Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and Member of the Board of Directors of Microfinance Bank Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Dr. Agbasi holds a Ph.D. in Cooperative Economics and Management, MBA (Cooperative Economics and Management), MBA (Business Administration) and BSc (Cooperative Economics and Management) all from Nnamdi Azikiwe University. She trained with the Teachers Institute Kaduna, earning a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, thus sharpening her pedagogical skills and making her a professional teacher. Her Journal publications are highly visible in Google Scholar, Academia, and Research Gate respectively. She has attended both National and International Conferences. She is a member of the following professional bodies, Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), a Fellow of the Institute of Cooperative Professionals of Nigeria (ICOPRON), a fellow with the Institute of Professionals Entrepreneurs and Strategic Administrator of Nigeria (IPESA) and she is happily married with four children and two grandchildren.

Dr. Agbasi organized the Maiden CEM Alumni Homecoming/ International Day of Cooperative Symposium at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria this year, 2023. She is the first woman president of her community women’s league who instituted a 15KVA Generator during her tenure between 2014-2018,  As an administrator, a goal-getter, and a humanitarian with a heart of gold, she is able to raise a huge amount of funds to buy 80-bags of rice and hundred and eighty pieces of clothes to share with 180 widows in her community, plus an additional sum of N10, 000 each, given to them as soft loan (without interest) to add to their businesses and finally establish a cooperative society for them.  More so, not only is she a teacher of the cooperative business model, but she has been advocating and encouraging the forming of such in all communities and even at religious places of worship as she did in her church setting up Cooperatives for women.

Dr. Agbasi was declared the winner and was awarded the COOPERATIVE PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR by CRASoN for her exemplary leadership and sterling performances coupled with several innovative initiatives she has brought to make her department one of the leading cooperative institutions in Nigeria.
