NAPTIP Staff Cooperative Society Set to Build Affordable Housing for Members

…Nwabuife pledged to influence lawmakers to promote bills that will address the housing deficit in the country

The Special Guest on the occasion, an Honorable Member House of Representatives, Princess Chinwe Nwabuife, has assured that the 10th National Assembly will make issues of housing deficit and building collapse among others, a top priority in terms of bills initiation and legislation.

She made the promise last week in Abuja during the foundation laying ceremony of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) cooperative staff housing estate.

She said “Laws have been made, bills have passed by our predecessors to ensure that some of these issues we are having in the housing industry are alleviated but we in the 10th assembly see it as a major project and major responsibility that we have to embark upon to ensure that we pass bills and come up with motions so that Nigerians irrespective of social strata or location, urban or rural, have access to qualitative and affordable housing.

“We are also going to collaborate with the manufacturers of building materials and the importers of these building materials down to the retailers of these building materials to ensure that the materials are first and foremost available, Affordable.

Nwabuife adds that the national assembly will also work with professional bodies and government organizations to address the problem of housing collapse.

She, however, congratulated NAPTIP on the feat and on taking laudable steps for the betterment of its staff, even after retirement.

Director General, NAPTIP Professor Fatima Waziri-Azi, said the agency has always made it a point not to joke with staff welfare and not only to fight human traffickers hence, the support it gives to the staff cooperative on this project.

Represented by the Director of Legal and Prosecution, of the agency, Hassan Tahir, the DG said “We prioritize the welfare of staff that is why the cooperative society is being encouraged to embark on a membership drive and it is as a result of this drive that the cooperative is able to key into such opportunity.

Mr. Ayeni Yusuf, President of the NAPTIP Cooperative Society, appreciated the partnering company to the cooperative body, NorrenbergerPension, and Transkredit Finance, who had always been a major supporter of every capital project to the cooperative body.

Yusuf disclosed that the landed property which was about five hectares, had been projected to house 50 duplexes and 60 bungalows for the cooperative members.

According to him, the houses are going to be built in a strategic way where the duplexes will be on one side, the bungalows will be on the other side.

He also said that the buildings in the NAPTIP staff cooperative estate had been projected to be completed before the end of 2024 August, as the work would start earnestly.

Yusuf, however, guaranteed maximum security in the estate, while appreciating other financial companies and housing developers who had supported the project.
