Lagos State Set to Celebrate 2023 International Cooperative Day

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Cooperatives (MCIC) Mrs. Adetutu Oluremi Ososanya (FCA) 

The Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Cooperatives (MCIC) is fully ready for the celebration of the International Cooperative Day events, and information reaching us from the office of the permanent secretary in the state stipulates that the event will be co-hosted by MCIC and the Lagos State Cooperative Federation (LASCOFED) Ltd with a theme “Cooperatives: Partners for Accelerated Sustainable Development,” the celebration of the International Cooperative Day is scheduled to hold for a week and to be marked between Tuesday 22nd of August. through to Sunday 27th August 2023 in Lagos State

On the 1st of July 2023, the global cooperative movement under the slogan “Cooperatives for Sustainable Development” commemorated the 101st International Cooperative Day and 29th International Day of Cooperatives officially recognized by the United Nations since 1995.

The International Day of Cooperatives (also known as #CoopsDay) marks the moment of the year when
cooperators around the world proudly promote and reaffirm their belonging to a global movement that
is bringing prosperity to people and communities sustainably and democratically. It is also a great occasion to claim to the international community and national governments the key role of
cooperatives as partners to accelerate the urgently needed changes to accomplish the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).

To commemorate the event in Lagos State, the Programme for the 2023 #CoopsDay Celebration in the State is scheduled as follows;

  1. Tuesday 22nd August – 10:00 AM:- 2023 #CoopsDay Press Briefing by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mrs. Adetutu Oluremi Ososanya (FCA) 
  2. Wednesday 23rd August – 10:00 AM:- Concern for Community Projects (i.e. Commissioning of Several CSR projects within the State)
  3. Thursday 24th August 10:00 AM:- Schools’ Cooperative Debate (Students from selected schools in the state to debate about the role of Cooperatives in sustainable development)
  4. Friday 25th August 01:00 PM:- 2023 #CoopsDay Jumat Service at the Alausa Central Mosque, Alausa-Ikeja
  5. Saturday 26th August 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM:- Panel Discussion, Exhibition & Expo, Luncheon, and Merit Awards to deserving Cooperatives and Cooperators in the State.
  6. Sunday 27th August 10:00 AM:- 2023 #CoopsDayThanksgiving Services Chapel of Christ The Light Cathedral Alausa-Ikeja

The grand finale event is to hold on Saturday 26th August 2023 with a Panel Discussion Session, Exhibition of Goods and Services by Cooperatives and Cooperators,, Luncheon, and Merit Awards Ceremony where we would have the Governor of Lagos State – Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Special Guest of Honour and other State government functionaries and the who is who in the cooperative movement of Nigeria to be in attendance

The Lagos State Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives (MCIC) has called on all Cooperative Societies in the state to brace up for the upcoming events in the state and kindly exhort them all to participate by supporting the successful hosting of the event as it is usually done in the state annually.
