Cooperators Tasked on Looking After the Growth and Development of Their Cooperatives
Cooperators have been urged to always look after the growth and development of their Cooperative Society. The immediate past Executive Secretary of Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), Chief (Mrs). J. Ola Bisiriyu revealed this while speaking at a day Seminar organized by Abeokuta Branch One of OGSCOFED Limited held on Tuesday, 12th of September, 2023 at Ife Oluwa Idi Aba (Abk) CMU Limited Cooperative Hall, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State with the theme “Managing Cooperatives for empowerment and development”.
Bisiriyu posited that the individual member has a role to play in a cooperative that goes beyond the basic economic relationship of customer, worker, or producer. Collective members own their cooperatives and through democratic arrangements, they participate in its governance. Individually, they have the right to information, a voice, and representation.
“To have viable and vibrant cooperative societies, leaders and members have much to do. Starting from regular attendance at meetings, obeying cooperative laws and bye-laws, obedience to society’s resolutions made at Annual General meetings, getting loans based on society’s Maximum Credit Limits, and repaying loans as at when due. Cooperative managers are to be committed and dedicated to their employers and shun conniving and saboteurs acts”.
“The Cooperative is your society, therefore your responsibility is to see it grow to assist and empower the members. Even non-members will also benefit from the goodies when it grow. Bonafide Members will be proud to have a society that is strong and reliable” she added.
In his remarks at the event, the Director of Cooperative Services in Ogun State, Pastor Samuel Mustapha ably represented by the Deputy Director of Cooperative Services, Mr. Akeem Ayodeji Ogunjimi called on the members to be innovative and enhance economic and human capital development that will contribute to the growth and development of the Cooperative Movement in Abeokuta Branch One and in Ogun State.
In his welcome address, the President of OGSCOFED Limited and Branch President of Abeokuta Branch One of OGSCOFED Limited, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye said “It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2023 Branch Seminar, the second of its kind which is organized to enlighten and educate our members on “MANAGING COOPERATIVES FOR EMPOWERMENT AND DEVELOPMENT as the theme of this seminar entails”.
He then implored all participants to contribute their quotas by listening to the teachings and asking questions where and when necessary.
The epoch-making event also witnessed a paper presentation on the topic “Health Empowerment for Cooperators” delivered by Dr. Oyeneye E. Olufunke.
