In a resounding display of proactive leadership, the Owolowo Makun Sagamu Remo CTCU Limited and Owodunni Makun Sagamu Cooperative Multi-purpose Union Limited hosted their annual 2024 Retreat at SLGEA, Sagamu Ogun State, on Wednesday, April 17th, signaling a commitment to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the future.
The event commenced with an earnest welcome address delivered by Prince L. A. Oriade ficp, President of Owolowo Makun Sagamu Remo C.T.C.U. Ltd, and Pastor Oyesanya J. A., President of Owodunni Makun Sagamu Remo CMU Limited. Urging attendees to remain attentive, they set the stage for a day of insightful discussions and strategic planning.
Representing the Sagamu Zonal Cooperative Officer, Mr. O. A. Babarinde, Mr. Olofijin highlighted the pivotal role of cooperative education, emphasizing its significance as the fifth Cooperative Principle. He called upon members to prioritize education, laying the foundation for the day’s proceedings with the official declaration of the retreat’s commencement.
Guest speaker Pastor Oluyiga Gbodi, ficp, Cooperative Administrative Manager for Owolowo Makun Sagamu Remo CTCU Ltd and President OGSCOMAS Remo Zone, delivered a compelling presentation on “BUILDING CAPACITY FOR TOMORROW’S COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES.” Reflecting on the evolution of cooperatives, Pastor Gbodi emphasized the need for adaptation in a rapidly changing landscape. He underscored the shift towards digitalization, youth involvement, and effective governance, urging participants to prepare for the coming wave of changes.
Addressing the responsibilities of board and committee members, Pastor Gbodi outlined key areas for capacity building, including critical thinking, strategic planning, business management, and opportunity identification. Stressing the importance of grooming the next generation of cooperative leaders, he called for thorough preparation and exploration of emerging opportunities.
