The Chartered Accountants Cooperative Multipurpose Society (CA-CMS) Limited held its 10th Annual General Meeting last week where new executives and officers of the society emerged that will steer the operations of the society for the next two years.
Prof. Godwin Emmanuel Oyedokun was the most popular candidate that emerged as the newly elected President at the AGM and became the 4th President of the Society since its inception.
Speaking during the presidential acceptance speech, Prof. Oyedokun stressed the need for financial support and other social intervention from the government to registered cooperative societies in both private and public sectors to cushion the effects of the harsh economy witnessed by the masses amidst the fuel subsidy removal.
He further charged the government to not only fund cooperatives but to ensure strengthened regulation that will be devoid of exploitation under the guise of statutory payments and maintained that cooperative society remained a gateway to financial independence, boasting numerous benefits including the low-interest rate on loans.
Oyedokun went down memory lane and talked about some of the achievements of the society, he explained that the idea of CA-CMS Ltd was birthed from ICAN professional forum in 2012 to improve members’ welfare. He also stated that the society being funded in-house had disbursed over N2 billion naira in revolving loans to members and has been quite proactive in responding to emergency and non-emergency situations of members.
Prof. Oyedokun promised to continue selfless service to members, stating that his office would draw more investment opportunities that will yield consistent and reliable returns for the society and in turn more dividends to the members.
“While working to improve the economic livelihood of members, we will not throw away our values. We assured of the highest levels of ethics and integrity that the society is known for since its inception. As chartered accountants, we understand the need for accountability and transparency in all our dealings, we will ensure that the society remains true to these noble principles”, he said.
