Bayelsa State Bureau for Cooperative Development Gets New Director General

The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State. His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri has appointed for the very first time in the history of the state an outstanding Cooperative Personality and Leader, a thoroughbred Cooperator and Administrator par Excellence in the person of High Chief Sylvester Ebikiri Akpolo JP as the Director General (DG) of the Bureau for Cooperative Development of the State.

High Chief Akpolo is a round peg in a round hole, deserving of this position being a seasoned administrator and Cooperator with vast experience and expertise in cooperative affairs, having more than three and half decades of experience where he had held several positions as an elected officer and serving on numerous board appointments as a member and chairman.

He was elected Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area between 1991 to 1993, also been a Federal Legislator elect. He has served as Senior Special Assistant to the Speaker on Local Government Matters and has been a member of the Transport Committee, Bendel Transport Company Ltd. Chairman, Board of Directors SALGA Transport Company Ltd. Chairman, Education Committee of SALGA. Member, Board of Directors West African Glass Industry (WAGI) Plc. Chairman Reactivation Committee WAGI Plc. Chairman, Audit Committee WAGI Plc.

High Chief Akpolo an alumnus of RCM Primary School, Agbere, Okotie Eboh Grammar School Sapele, University of Benin, Edo State, and the Federal Cooperative College, Oji-River, Enugu State, has always risen to the top in all his chosen endeavor and career path in life due to his hard-working nature, honesty, and sheer determination for excellence, within the Cooperative Industry both at the State and Federal level as a cooperator has gotten to the pinnacle as the President, Bayelsa State Cooperative Federation, and at the Federal Level has been the Treasurer of the Apex body in the country – Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN). In fact, until his appointment last week as the Director General of Bayelsa State Bureau for Cooperative Development, he was the Vice President of the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN).

The Bayelsa State Bureau for Cooperative Development is saddled with the responsibilities of educating Bayelsans about Cooperatives, promoting, developing, registering, monitoring, supervising, and auditing Cooperative Societies in the State as backed by the Cooperative Societies Laws of Bayelsa State.
