The Nigerian National Cooperative Awards, Symposium, and Exhibitions tagged “The Trailblazers – Lagos 2023” was held on Sunday, 19th November 2023 at the prestigious NECA Event Center in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. The event was themed “Re-imagining Cooperatives in Nigeria: Our Success Stories, Challenges, and the Way Forward”. It was a grand finale event that was attended by prominent cooperative personalities within the academia, professionals, regulators, policy-makers, cooperative industry drivers, operators, and managers. The National Cooperative Awards Dinner and Patrons Investiture Ceremony was grand and full of glamour and glitz.
During the ceremony, Alhaji Sadiq Saheed Anako was awarded the COOPERATIVE MAN OF THE YEAR for his leadership roles and contributions to the promotion, growth, and development of the cooperative model in Nigeria, especially in Lagos State. The Airport Fire & Safety Cooperative Multipurpose Society Ltd., which is his primary cooperative society, was awarded the Most Supportive Cooperative, and the Management Committee was declared the Most Outstanding Management Committee of the Year. Also, his secondary union, Ikeja Multipurpose Cooperative Union, was declared Coop Union of the Year.
in his response to the recognition given to him, Alhaji Sadiq stated “For every Award for Excellence, it is always a motivation to do more. And Cooperative is all about impacting the people, by adding more value.” He commended the organizers of the Award that they have tried to improve by taking the award event to the next level.
CRASoN – The Cooperative Rating & Award Society of Nigeria is a value-based Rating and Award Institution founded on the universal principles of cooperative and its ethical values to monitor, track, evaluate, and report the economic performances and social impacts of cooperative societies with other initiatives geared to raise their profile to policymakers, researchers, manufacturers, development partners, governments and NGOs amongst all stakeholders.
They set up the National Cooperative Awards with the sole aim of celebrating excellence in Cooperative leadership in Nigeria, showcasing Cooperatives and Cooperator’s contributions to the economy, including their social impact on their members and the community in which they operate. Also, creating awareness for the cooperative sub-sector. The Awards seeks to foster healthy competition and cooperation among cooperative societies in order to create efficiency and effectiveness in their operations. It promises to revitalize, refocus, and spur even development among cooperative societies in Nigeria to achieve their fundamental objectives of building social cohesion and virile MSMEs to serve as engine for inclusive growth and diversification of the economy
