AKTC Lease Vehicle Operators’ Cooperative Society Holds AGM, Elects New Executives

…Set to have a building for Commercial and Administrative purposes

The 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Akwa Ibom Transport Company Limited (AKTC) Lease Vehicle Operators (Aka Offot) Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd has ended with election of new executives and a charge on members to uphold the principles of the cooperative which are; Voluntary and Open Membership, Democratic Member Control, Members’ Economic Participation, Autonomy and Independence, Education, Training and Information, Cooperation Among Cooperatives, and Concern for Community. and its universal values of Self-help, Self- responsibility, Democracy, Equality, Equity and Solidarity.

The charge came from the Akwa Ibom State Director of Cooperatives, Mrs Imaobong Ibanga during the just ended 2nd AGM and Foundation laying ceremony of the society’s Administrative/Commercial Building held at Bezaleel Hall, House Of Assembly Road, off udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo,

Ibanga who was represented by Mrs.Iniobong Akpan in her keynote address at the event explained that these are effective tools for their goal realisationC

The Akwa Ibom State Cooperative Director urged them to emulate the Equitable Pioneers Cooperatives in Great Britain known today as a prototype of modern cooperative business model for making effective use of all the principles and values of cooperation including the Ethical Values such as Honesty, Openness, Social responsibilities as well as Caring for others success, adding that continuous usage of these values and principles would help them attain greater heights.

She noted that cooperatives thrives where there is peace and emphasized the need for them to always embrace peace to attract development while shunning all forms of litigations.

Ibanga commended the effort’s of the management committee led by the president, Akwa Obong Ibanga for successfully piloting the affairs of the cooperative and prudent use of funds over the years.

She maintained that the cooperative will not be successful without the cooperation and support of members, and appreciated them for the rapid and impressive progress over the years charging them to keep it up.

She disclosed that cooperative is a people- oriented business where human beings voluntarily come together on the basis of equality pulling their lean resources together with a view to promoting the socio-economic interest of themselves.

Earlier, the president AKTC Lease Vehicle Operators (Aka Offot) Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd, Akwa Obong Ibanga, in his opening remark, appreciated members for their impressive turnout and for standing by the management committee noting that since 2019 that they came on board they have enjoyed support , unity cooperation and peace from members.

Ibanga stated that God has been kind to him by providing him with all that he needed in life but the office will avail him the opportunity to groom and advise young ones.

He pledged to continue to do his best to serve humanity and especially to complete the cooperative’s permanent secretariat which foundation has been laid today, while sueing for a level playing ground to do more as he has been re-elected for another four years.

On his part, the president, Akwa Ibom Cooperative Federation (AKCOFED) , Elder Asuquo Jonah said the three in one event organized by AKTC Lease vehicle operators was a milestone in the history of cooperatives in Akwa Ibom state.

Jonah ,who is the president governing council of Akwa Ibom Cooperative Federation, the umbrella cooperative body for the state commended the management committee for the wonderful and successful job done.

The president who acknowledged that the cooperative has set a standard for others to emulate charged members to continue to support their leaders as nothing builds cooperative than the support of members.

In a good will message, the Managing Director (MD) Nsik Motors, Mr. Nsikak Johnny represented by Mrs Angela Afia said he was delighted to be part of the event and to witness the massive turnout which is an indication that drivers were into serious business.

He stated that cooperative brings togetherness and development and commended the leaders for a great job well done.

He also commended the re-elected and new officers and urged them to continue to keep the flag of the cooperative flying.
The AGM was preceded by the foundation stone laying ceremony of the society’s administrative block/commercial building at Afaha Ikot Obio Nkan Road, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

The event climaxed with the election of new management committee and council of Inspection members to pilot the affairs of the cooperative in the next four years.
The officer were ,Akwa Obong Michael Ibanga, President, Akparawa Sylvester Nyong, Secretary, Mr Idorenyin Inyang, Treasurer, Apostle Peter Essiet, Director of operations, Mr Godwin Robert, Welfare officer, Mr. Ekong Etuk, Provost and Elder Inyene Udofia, Auditor, were re-elected while. Pastor Godwin Anthony, Mr Andrew Lewis, and Mr. Wisdom Festus grabbed the position of Vice President, Financial Secretary and Ex- Offico respectively.

Also Mr Ifiok Ekpa was elected Chairman, Council of Inspection, followed by Elder Christian Ekpo, Council of Inspection Secretary and Mrs Mary Isong. Member,
