Abel Habila Advocated for a Full Fledge Ministry of Cooperatives in Kaduna State

….Says Cooperative Empowers Women, Creates Jobs and Provides Food Security

The President of Kaduna Federation of Workers Cooperative Ltd. Mr. Abel Habila Adamu had advocated for a full fledge Ministry of Cooperatives or a Bureau for Cooperative Development in the State, He stated this in his address on the occasion of the 2023 UN International Day of Cooperatives with a theme “Cooperative for Sustainable Development” celebrated in Kaduna State on 1st July .

Abel Habila explained that the creation of the ministry or agency would help the state government adequately implement its policies via providing international regulatory standard and best practices that would checkmate the operations of quacks and illegal groups. masqurading as Cooperative societies in the State.

He also appealed to the Kaduna State governor to begin full implementation of the recently passed Cooperative Bill and singed into Law.

The president stressed the Kaduna Federation of Workers Cooperative determination to provide concrete solutions regarding food security, employment, access to healthcare and social services, poverty and financial inclusion among others to the people of the State through variety of programs to be rolled out by the organization.

“Cooperatives are true builders of sustainable development in any given society and they are there to support people and communities achieve their objectives. Also, cooperatives are instrumental to achieving food security and thereby end hunger by allowing farmers to produce more and better quality food and help to empower women economically and socially, especially the vulnerable thereby providing job opportunities, and contributing to financial inclusion and literacy efforts.” He said.

As we celebrate this 2023 International Day of Cooperatives, I urged all cooperators in the state to start sharing how Cooperatives contribute to their member’s economic, social and cultural growth by making a pledge to continue to serve our members and the communities where we operates, as we remain important and crucial to the development of the economy.

“I call for a formal recognition of the values that Cooperatives add to the global economy and society. It is a call for action to translate this recognition into meaningful improvements to regulatory, legal and business support structures, both globally and at the level of national governance”,he concluded

The President re-echoed that the Cooperative movement are working to achieve the the United Nations goal of ensuring a sustainable future for all through a strong and lasting business opportunities that brings people and communities with common interests together.

Present at the event are some Key members of the management committees of the organization and other Presidents of several workers cooperative.
